In addition to the monthly book club meet ups and socials at Flamingos, Leeds LGBT+ Book Club decided to run one off talks, readings and book signings. This very quickly grew into Leeds LGBT Literature Festival, a weekend long event in July 2018.

After the success of this first big event, the decision was made to change it to Leeds LGBT+ Literature Festival (as we felt more confident at providing greater diversity in our sessions) which is now a two yearly event. Additional, smaller events being branded as Leeds Mini LGBT+ Lit Fests.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, our events became virtual with two events in 2020 and another two in 2021. These included live events such as via Zoom, blogs and pre-recorded videos which remain available on our YouTube channel.

Many of our event contributors and attendees now extended beyond Leeds, all the way around the world. In recognition of this, the decision was made to rebrand as LGBT+ Lit Fest 2022 and become an international organisation.
